Long flights can be exhausting, uncomfortable, and noisy, but the right travel gadgets for flights can make a huge difference. Whether you’re trying to sleep, block out cabin noise, or stay comfortable for hours in the air, a few airplane travel essentials can turn a stressful travel day into a much smoother experience.
Here are three of my favorite travel gadgets for flying that I never board a plane without.

A Reliable Power Bank
There’s nothing worse than your phone dying mid-flight when you’re halfway through a movie or audiobook. A portable charger (power bank) is a lifesaver, especially on long-haul flights or layovers with few outlets.
And here’s a newer reason to have one: with recent reports of malware being installed in airport charging stations, keeping your own power source takes that risk out of the equation. Look for one that:
- Can charge your phone at least 2–3 times
- Has multiple ports
- Meets TSA carry-on regulations for battery size
Like this one. I keep mine in my personal item so I can charge on the go without digging through my bag in the overhead bin.
Noise-Canceling Headphones: A Must-Have Travel Gadget for Flights
One of the best gadgets for long flights is a good pair of noise-canceling headphones. Between engine hum, cabin announcements, and chatty seatmates, flights can get loud. Noise-cancelling headphones help create a little bubble of peace so you can enjoy music, podcasts, or a movie without cranking up the volume.
I love my AirPods Pro because:
- They’re lightweight and compact
- They connect seamlessly to my phone and tablet
- The transparency mode is perfect when I need to hear announcements without removing them
Bonus tip: Pair your noise-cancelling headphones with a white noise app on your phone, and your Kindle reading time becomes extra peaceful, even in a noisy cabin.
Kindle
I used to pack two or three paperbacks for trips, but my Kindle has completely changed my travel reading game.
Why I bring it:
- It’s lightweight and fits in my purse
- I can carry thousands of books without extra weight
- The battery lasts for weeks. Perfect for long trips
The screen is easy to read even in bright airplane windows, and it won’t strain your eyes like a phone or tablet screen. With my headphones in and white noise playing, it’s my favorite way to pass the hours in the air. Here is the link for the one I personally use, the Kindle Paperwhite.

Travel Tip: Keep all three gadgets in a small tech pouch in your carry-on so you always know where they are, and so airport security is a breeze.
