St. Lucia is one of those destinations that almost feels unreal when you see it in person. Towering green mountains rise straight out of the Caribbean Sea, lush rainforest covers the island, and the water is the kind of deep turquoise you usually only see in photos.
When we visited St. Lucia last year, it quickly became one of the most memorable stops on our cruise. Between the incredible scenery and the relaxed island atmosphere, it’s easy to understand why so many travelers fall in love with this Caribbean destination.
In this St. Lucia travel guide, I’m sharing a little about our experience on the island along with some of the best things to do in St. Lucia if you’re planning your own trip.
The Famous Pitons
No St. Lucia travel guide would be complete without mentioning the island’s most iconic landmarks: the Pitons.
The twin volcanic peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton rise dramatically from the Caribbean Sea and are one of the most recognizable sights in the Caribbean.
Seeing them in person is even more impressive than photos make them seem.

Things to Do in St. Lucia
There are plenty of things to do in St. Lucia, especially if you enjoy nature, beautiful scenery, and outdoor adventures.
Visit the Drive-In Volcano
One of the island’s most unique attractions is Sulphur Springs, often referred to as the world’s only drive-in volcano. Visitors can see bubbling volcanic pools and experience the famous mud baths. This was the highlight of the tour we went on. And the sights along the way made the drive worth it.
Stepping into Sulfur Springs was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The warm, mineral-rich water is known for its therapeutic qualities, and according to locals, the volcanic mud can help improve your skin, circulation, and overall relaxation.
There are three pools on-site, with temperatures rising the closer you get to the volcano’s heat source. We eased into the warmest one, letting the heat melt away every bit of tension from the trip. Of course, we couldn’t resist covering ourselves in the volcanic mud, equal parts fun and rejuvenating!
Relax on the Beaches
St. Lucia is home to several beautiful beaches. One of the most well-known is Sugar Beach, located between the Pitons with incredible views in every direction.
Explore the Island by Boat
Boat excursions are a popular way to experience the island. Sailing along the coastline offers some of the best views of the Pitons and St. Lucia’s dramatic landscape.
Cool Off Under a Waterfall
After the springs, our guide took us to nearby Toraille Waterfall tucked within lush greenery. Stepping underneath the cascading water felt refreshing and energizing, like nature’s own power shower, as he called it.
The cool water was the perfect contrast to the heat of the springs, and the entire area felt peaceful and untouched. It was the ideal final stop before our relaxing drive back toward port.

Where to Stay in St. Lucia
St. Lucia offers a wide range of accommodations, from luxury cliffside resorts to relaxed beachfront properties.
Luxury Resorts
Some of the most famous places to stay include:
- Jade Mountain Resort – known for its open-air suites and breathtaking Piton views
- Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort – a luxury resort nestled between the Pitons
All-Inclusive Resorts
Travelers looking for a more relaxed, all-inclusive experience often stay at resorts like:
Many visitors choose to stay near Soufrière for the best views of the Pitons and easy access to many of the island’s top attractions.
Best Time to Visit St. Lucia
The best time to visit St Lucia is typically between December and April when the weather is warm and dry. This is also the most popular time for travelers to visit the island.
However, St Lucia remains warm year-round, so visiting during the shoulder seasons in late spring or early fall can also be a great option with fewer crowds.
Why St. Lucia Is So Special
St. Lucia has a unique combination of dramatic landscapes, tropical beauty, and relaxing Caribbean charm.
Between the towering Pitons, lush rainforest scenery, and stunning coastal views, it’s the kind of destination that leaves a lasting impression long after your trip is over.
Our time there reminded us why the Caribbean remains one of the most beloved travel destinations in the world.
This island truly offers a perfect balance of adventure, beauty, and relaxation. Whether you’re:
- chasing breathtaking landscapes,
- learning about local culture,
- indulging in chocolate and mineral-rich mud baths, or
